Rabbit Recommends…..

We recently completed a fiber audit for a client with multiple fiber patch panels in multiple geographic locations.  We used an OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) to test more than 1,200 open ports.  Of course, we did find a number of issues with the fiber in the field.  As expected, we also found issues with some of the open ports.  In some cases, the open ports couldn’t pass light because of foreign material in the ports, e.g. dust, skin oil, etc.  There’s a simple solution to keeping your ports clean:  a one-click port cleaner.   They cost around 100 bucks and are amazingly effective.  So, before you test an open port or declare that you have a bad port in a patch panel, give it a quick clean and you might be surprised with the results.  Here’s what port cleaners look like:  https://www.graybar.com/search/?text=port+cleaners
